Fall Flag Football

Grade/Age Divisions

1st – 2nd Grade Division

This league develops basic skills, fundamentals and basic game strategy.  The volunteer coach has the option of playing the quarterback position for the first 2 weeks of the season. Starting in Week #3 the players are the QB for the remainder of the season.  A QB tee is used and the QB has 5 seconds to hand the ball off or throw a pass. Football used is a Pee-Wee Size 5/K2. 5-v-5 format to allow maximum opportunities per player.   Maximum of 10 players per team.

3rd-9th Grade Divisions

Players rotate at all positions according to league rules throughout each game.  Games played 9-v-9 with a maximum of 13 players per team

  • 3rd/4th Grade Division
    Maximum of 12 teams in this division. Football used is a Junior Size 6/TDJ
  • 5th/6th Grade Division   
    Maximum of 12 teams in this division. Coaches can bring in their entire team. Football used is a Junior Size 6/TDJ
  • 7th/8th/9th Grade Division

    Maximum of 10 teams in this division. Teams will be built per requests. Coaches can bring in their entire team. Football used is a Youth Size 6/TDY

We will do our best to honor special requests, however, we do not guarantee them.  Requests and team placement are considered based on making evenly skilled teams, coaches requests and the date order received.  For 1st - 4th Grade we limit special requests to 2 per player and up to 5 names for head coaches.

Program Information

Fall Flag Football League

Limited contact football for 1st-9th graders, played in a safe and fun atmosphere.

Each Division has team practices, scrimmages, games and playoffs. Coaches will schedule practice time during the week. Games are played on Saturdays, starting at 9:00am. 

Regular season will start on August 19 and go through October 14 (no games Labor Day weekend).

Playoffs will be held October 21 and October 28. All teams will make the playoffs and each Division will have 2 playoff brackets based on the final standings. Championship games will be played on the turf field at Commissioners Park.

Games will be played at local fields. Final locations are TBD, but will include Wheatland Park, Crossroads Church and Springbrook Church.

Volunteer coaches are needed. Pair up with a friend to coach a team for a rewarding experience. Assistance will be provided for playbooks and practice organization. Coaches may make player requests based on location and car pools. Attendance at a pre-season coaches meeting is required, date/time TBD.

If necessary the league may be modified to comply with Illinois guidelines.

Playoff Overtime: 
  • A coin toss will be held to start overtime. 
    • The winning team has 3 options:
      • Offense First,
      • Defense First
      • Direction (both teams go the same direction for all overtime periods).
  • Each team will have a possession in each OT period.
  • Each team will have a four-play possession beginning at the 10-yard line.
  • Each team gets 1 Timeout per overtime, no carry over
  • An Interception can be returned for a score
  • If a team scores, they can attempt a one or two point conversion.
  • Beginning in the 3rd OT period, teams may only attempt a 2-pt PAT after scoring.
  • If tied after first overtime the team that lost the coinflip gets choice of Offense or Defense
  • If tied after a 2nd or subsequent OT the choice of Offense or Defense will alternate
  • The game is over when one team has more points at the end of the OT period.
  • All other rules remain in effect.
Equipment:
  • Player Provided: All players should wear plastic/rubber spikes.
  • Optional: Mouthpiece, knee pads and elbow pads. They can be purchased at any sporting goods store.
  • WAA Provided: Each participant receives a team jersey and player flag belt.

Special Requests

Remember: Special requests for team placement will be considered carefully, but there is NO GUARANTEE they will be honored.  For requests to be considered, the registration should be submitted as early as possible.  Requests are considered on a first come, first serve priority.  Each participant is limited to two requests (eg, friend, coach) per registration.   WAA tries to place children based on special requests, neighborhood and school.   However, we also have to make balanced teams and and are limited by the number of volunteer head coaches.  Please spell names of requested players/coaches correctly.

Football Officials

WAA may hire and train flag football officials if additional workers are needed. If you are 16 or older and interested in applying, please complete the "Student Worker/Various" application and mail to WAA, 2323 Liberty Street, Aurora IL 60502 Attention: Flag Football Director.

Volunteer Opportunities

WAA is a non-profit volunteer organization.  Parent volunteer coaches are needed for all teams at all levels.  Please volunteer to coach on the volunteer screen in your child's registration.
