Recreational Basketball

Program Information

WAA's Indoor Winter recreational basketball leagues are for boys and girls in grades K – 12. Online registration begins in August. Enrollment is limited and players will be placed on teams on a first come, first serve basis.  Register early for Special RequestsSome Divisions may go to wait list!  Registration fee includes a team shirt.

The primary emphasis of the program is to teach basic skills to all players and enhance the skills of the more experienced players. The program encourages player creativity in the development of both individual and team skills. WAA’s goal is to create an atmosphere of fun and good sportsmanship for all players. Emphasis on only winning is not the purpose of our program.  All players participate equally. Our recreational program for grades 9th – 12th will NOT be open to high school team players. The high school program will be split into two divisions; grades 9–10 and 11–12.

League Play will be split into 2 sessions. At this time, all age groups except 7th/8th grade girls (play Session 1 only) and High School Boys (play Session 2 only) will have the opportunity to play both sessions.  WAA reserves the right to combine age groups or change the league makeup due to registration numbers.

The games are scheduled to be played on Saturdays in a local gym.  Practices are held during the week in the evening at local area facilities. Head coaches will schedule practices at the beginning of the season and communicate to team. K-2nd grade play with 8 foot hoop height, 3rd grade play on 9 foot hoop, and 4th grade – HS use 10 foot hoop height.

Every effort is made to assign each division to one school for the season. Schedules will be posted online and available via family account at the beginning of the season. Practices are held during the week in the evening at local area facilities.  Coaches are asked to attend a coaches meeting before the season starts and will receive rosters, schedule and uniforms. Coaches will sign up for their practice time after the session coach meeting, by calling the office at their scheduled time and selecting from available times and locations.

Program parameters may need to be altered due to State guidelines or local facility requirements. The Wheatland Athletic Association follows the guidelines issued by the State of Illinois under the Restore Illinois Plan in the operation of programs and facilities. Please click here for up to date information and guidance
