Playing It Safe- WAA Basketball

All 2021 WAA programs are "Playing IT Safe" and will be run in accordance with the State of Illinois All Sports Policy.

Training Schedule:

***Please remember masks are to be worn and no spectators.  Attendance will be taken for contact tracing purposes.  Please make sure if you exhibit any covid symptoms, please stay home.

Training will last for an hour and be done by trainers with assistance from the coaches.  When training is finished please exit the building so the next group can begin on time.

Thank you for sticking with us during these uncertain times.  Our goal is and always will be to provide your children the opportunity to learn and have fun with sports while “PLAYING IT SAFE”.

Competition Weeks and Team Standings

3rd – 12th grade only

Competition Week Schedule:

The last two weeks of each session are “Competition Weeks”. Competition Weeks are aimed to provide additional excitement and FAIR COMPETITION for the program participants. To the extent possible, the teams with better records will play one another, while teams that don't have as many wins will play one another during those last two weeks (that’s also why the schedule for the last two weeks contains “TBD”). For additional information on “Competition Weeks” please see the Rule Book, Section 2.2.

Team Standings - 3rd through 12th grade only:
After games each week, coaches of the winning team are to notify WAA of their win using the following email account – [email protected]

  • Scores are not to be supplied and have no bearing on the scheduling or seeding for the Competition Weeks scheduling.
  • When reporting wins, include your team number/name.
  • Games without reported wins will not be factored into the standings.
  • WAA staff will keep track of the standings.
  • After completion of the final games before Competition Week, revised schedules will be sent out for the remaining games (those currently labeled as TBD on the schedule).

For more information please contact the WAA office at 630-978-2855.

The primary emphasis of the program is to teach basic skills to all players and enhance the skills of the more experienced players. The program encourages player creativity in the development of both individual and team skills. WAA’s goal is to create an atmosphere of fun and good sportsmanship for all players. Emphasis on only winning is not the purpose of our program.  All players participate equally. Our recreational program for grades 9th – 12th will NOT be open to high school team players. The high school program will be split into two divisions; grades 9–10 and 11–12.

League Play will be split into 2 sessions. At this time, all age groups except 7th/8th grade girls and High School Boys will have the opportunity to play both sessions.  WAA reserves the right to combine age groups or change the league makeup due to registration numbers.

The games are scheduled to be played on Saturdays at a District 204 or area school.  Practices are held during the week in the evening at local area facilities. Head coaches will schedule practices at the beginning of the season and communicate to team. K-2nd grade play with 8 foot hoop height, 3rd grade play on 9 foot hoop, and 4th grade – HS use 10 foot hoop height.

Every effort is made to assign each division to one school for the season. Schedules will be posted online and available via family account at the beginning of the season. Practices are held during the week in the evening at local area facilities.  Coaches are asked to attend a coaches meeting before the season starts and will receive rosters, schedule and uniforms. Coaches will sign up for their practice time after the session coach meeting, by calling the office at their scheduled time and selecting from available times and locations.
