Game Reschedule Information
Please review our weather and cancellation policy below.
If the weather appears threatening, please do not call the WAA office. WAA will communicate game or field cancellations as soon as possible on our website at www.waasports.org via our Rainout Line. It is important to check the Rainout Line prior to leaving for your game. On weekends, field/weather conditions can change throughout the day. We encourage participants to sign up for email or text alerts for the specific fields that your team will play at this summer utilizing the Rainout Line features.
To access the RAINOUT LINE: –The link to the Rainout Line is on the waasports.org homepage (directly under Quick Links on the bottom right of the homepage). Click on the words “WAA Rainout Line” and it will take you to all the field locations WAA is using. Scroll through the list to find your field.
- We update field status as soon as crews contact us. Typically, we will not cancel games due to a weather forecast. Our goal is to update the status of game fields no later than 4:30 pm weekdays, 8am on Saturday, noon on Sunday, or as soon as we know about the playability of the field. Fields cannot be continually monitored and often times, cancellations will be based on a game by game decision at the field, by the officials and coaches.
- Sign up for field specific email or text alerts! Click on “Email & Text Alerts” located on the left side of the screen under Wheatland Athletic Association on the Rainout Line page
- You can also call the Rainout line at 630-984-4344 and listen for your game field to be announced. Another alternative is to download the Rainout Line App from your App store.
- As always, parents have the final say on whether to have their child stay at home or attend a game that has not been cancelled due to the weather forecast.
- Rescheduling a canceled game - Home team coach should contact opposing coach for a few date options; then contact the WAA office at 630- 978-2855 for field and time assignment. Please ask for Tom.
Severe Weather and Heat
WAA Weather Policy - Click to Review full policy.
Games should always be suspended for lightning and should not resume until 30 minutes after the last lightning flash or thunder. Please see detailed information in the WAA Weather Policy link.
Parents always have the ultimate responsibility to make decisions regarding the participation and safety of their child.
During the warm weather WAA encourages participants to follow the guidelines below.
Game Time heat index of 88-95 degrees - Parents and Coaches are encouraged to take extra steps to protect their players by making sure they keep them hydrated and by encouraging frequent substitution during games and practices. Parents should make sure that players are hydrated prior to participating and that they are wearing sunscreen.
Game Time heat index of 96-99 degrees - Parents and Coaches are encouraged to take extra steps to protect their players by making sure they keep them hydrated and by encouraging frequent substitution during games and practices. Parents should make sure that players are hydrated prior to participating and that they are wearing sunscreen. In addition, catchers should be allowed to catch only two innings in succession.
Game Time heat index of 100-103 degrees - All procedures noted above and games should be reduced by one inning. If it is a practice day, coaches are instructed to reduce the time of practice, take frequent breaks and keep players well hydrated by having them drink water.
Game Time heat index of above 103 – Officials, coaches and parents should consider cancelling the game if concerned about the well being of the participants; especially during the hours of 10am-3pm.
The above are merely guidelines and it is the responsibility of parents to make the ultimate decision as to the participation of their child in WAA events when heat may be a factor. Parents need to consider the age and physical condition of their child. Parents also have the ultimate responsibility to inform their child about the dangers of heat and need for protection, including sunscreen and proper hydration before, during and after an event. Parents and coaches should familiarize themselves with the signs of heat related illnesses. This information has been adapted from the American College of Sports Medicine Position Stand on Exertional Heat Illness during Training and Competition. Because WAA utilizes many sites in the area and weekend games occur throughout the day, we encourage coaches and parents to monitor the current conditions. The current heat index is available at: www.weather.com See the “feels like” temperature.
