The WAA Recreational Basketball program is designed for boys and girls in grades K–12, focusing on teaching the fundamentals of the game while also helping more experienced players continue to grow and refine their skills. Our programs emphasize both individual skill development and team play in a positive, supportive environment that encourages learning, fun, and strong sportsmanship.
Our indoor leagues include one practice and one game per week throughout an eight-game season for 1st-12th graders. Games are held on Saturdays at local gyms, including District 204 schools. Practice days, times, and locations are selected by the team’s head coach.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
WAA’s Indoor Winter Basketball League offers recreational play for boys and girls in grades K–12. Registration opens online in August, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so early registration is encouraged—especially for families with special requests. Some divisions may fill quickly and be placed on a waitlist. A team shirt is included with registration.
Our program is focused on teaching the fundamentals of basketball while also supporting more experienced players in developing their skills. We encourage creativity, growth, and teamwork in a positive environment where all players are given the opportunity to participate equally. At WAA, the goal is not just winning—it’s learning, improving, and enjoying the game while building strong sportsmanship.
The high school recreational division (grades 9–12) is designed for players who are not currently part of their school basketball teams and is split into two divisions: 9–10 and 11–12. This division is available in Session 2 only.
League play is divided into two sessions. Session 1 runs from late October to mid-January, and Session 2 runs from late January to mid-March. Games will not be played when school is not in session. Most age groups have the opportunity to participate in both sessions, with the exception of 7th/8th grade girls (Session 1 only) and high school boys (Session 2 only). WAA reserves the right to adjust age groupings or league structure based on registration numbers.
Games are played on Saturdays at local gyms, with weekday evening practices held at local area facilities. Head coaches will coordinate practice schedules at the start of the season and communicate directly with their teams.
To help ensure a smooth season, K–2nd grade plays on 8-foot hoops, 3rd grade on 9-foot hoops, and 4th grade through high school on 10-foot hoops.
Whenever possible, each division is assigned to a single school location for the season. Schedules are posted online and accessible through family accounts before the season begins. Coaches are required to attend a preseason coaches meeting, where they receive rosters, schedules, and uniforms. After the meeting, coaches will select practice times by contacting the office during their scheduled sign-up window.
