2026 Fall Flag Football

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Join WAA’s Fall Flag Football League for a fun, safe, and competitive football experience for players in 1st–9th grade. This limited-contact program focuses on developing football skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and game strategy in a positive environment.

Each division includes team practices, scrimmages, regular season games, and playoffs. Coaches will schedule one practice per week, and games are played on Saturdays beginning at 9:00 AM.

The regular season runs from mid-August through mid-October (no games over Labor Day weekend). Playoffs begin in October after the regular season concludes. All teams qualify for the playoffs, with brackets based on final division standings. Championship games are tentatively scheduled at a turf field in Aurora or Naperville. Games are played at local fields, with final locations near the Eola Road and Montgomery Road areas.

SPECIAL REQUESTS

WAA will make every effort to accommodate special requests, but they are not guaranteed. Placement is based on:

  • Balanced and competitive teams
  • Coach requests
  • Registration date

1st–4th grade limits:

  • Up to 2 player requests per participant
  • Up to 5 requested players per coach

Coaching Opportunities

Volunteer coaches are needed to help create a positive experience for players. WAA provides support, including:

  • Playbooks
  • Practice organization tools
  • Team management guidance

Attendance at a preseason coaches meeting is required (date TBD).

Flag Football Division Cards - 1st & 2nd

1st & 2nd Grade

Fall Flag Football

Focus: Fundamentals of flag football, basic skills, and game strategy

  • 5 vs. 5 format (max 10 players per team)

  • QB-Tee used for snaps
  • QB has 5 seconds to hand off or pass
  • Volunteer coaches may play QB during first two weeks
  • Starting Week 3, players rotate into QB position
  • Football: Pee-Wee Size 5/K2

3rd - 9th Grade

Fall Flag Football

Focus: Position rotation, game understanding, and development

  • 9 vs. 9 format (max 13 players per team)

3rd Grade – Pee-Wee Size 5/K2
4th Grade – Pee-Wee Size 5/K2
5th Grade – Junior Size 6/TDJ
6th Grade – Junior Size 6/TDJ
7th–9th Grade – Youth Size 6/TDY (max 10 teams)

Teams may be formed through player requests or full coach submissions.

Keep your player active, learning, and having fun this fall with the WAA Flag Football League, a limited-contact program for 1st–9th graders (2026 Fall grade). Open to all skill levels, this league emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, and game play in a safe and supportive environment.

Players will build skills in passing, catching, defense, and game strategy while enjoying a fun and competitive season led by volunteer coaches.

1st–9th Grade Program

  • Season: August 22 – October 17 (no games Labor Day Weekend)

  • Games: Saturdays beginning at 9:00 AM

  • Practices: Scheduled during the week by each team’s coach

  • Locations: Wheatland Park, Crossroads Church, and Springbrook Church

Playoffs:
All teams qualify for playoffs, held the weekends of October 24 and October 31. Each division will have two playoff brackets based on regular season standings. Championship games are planned for Sunday, November 1 at Aurora University’s Spartan Athletic Park (schedule subject to change).

Important Dates:

  • Registration Opens: April 13
  • Special Request Deadline: July 1
  • Coach Meeting: August 3 (5:45–6:45 PM)
  • Practices Begin: After coach meeting
  • Scrimmages: August 15
  • Season Begins: August 22
  • Playoffs: October 24 & October 31

Coaching Opportunities
WAA is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization, and coaches are essential to our programs. Pair up with a friend for a fun and rewarding experience! Resources, including practice plans and playbooks, are provided. Coaches may submit player requests for scheduling and carpool considerations. Attendance at the preseason coach meeting is required.

EQUIPMENT, RULES & DIRECTIONS

EQUIPMENT:

Player Equipment:

  • Players should wear plastic/rubber spikes. 

  • Optional: Mouthpiece, knee pads and elbow pads.  

Player uniform provided by WAA:

  • WAA will supply each player with a team jersey and player flag belt included in the registration fee.

Team equipment provided by WAA:

  • WAA provides all team equipment to the head coach, including 2 footballs, cones, a ball pump, clipboard and kicking tee.

PLAYOFF OVERTIME:

  • A coin toss will be held to start overtime.
    • The winning team has 3 options:
      • Offense First,
      • Defense First
      • Direction (both teams go the same direction for all overtime periods).
  • Each team will have a possession in each OT period.
  • Each team will have a four-play possession beginning at the 10-yard line.
  • Each team gets 1 Timeout per overtime, no carry over
  • An Interception can be returned for a score
  • If a team scores, they can attempt a one or two point conversion.
  • Beginning in the 3rd OT period, teams may only attempt a 2-pt PAT after scoring.
  • If tied after first overtime the team that lost the coinflip gets choice of Offense or Defense
  • If tied after a 2nd or subsequent OT the choice of Offense or Defense will alternate
  • The game is over when one team has more points at the end of the OT period.
  • All other rules remain in effect.
