2018 Summer Competitive Baseball

The mission of the WAA Competitive Baseball program is to teach the game of baseball in a fun, competitive and instructional environment. WAA directors and coaches are focused on improving the ability of every player, enhancing the experience for each family and creating a lifetime passion for the game of baseball.

There are 3 Divisions within the program: Minors (9 and 10 year olds), Majors (11 and 12 year olds), and Ponies (13 and 14 year olds).  A player must be within the age range on or before May 1, 2018. Highly competitive athletes may try out for one division up (call the office for registration assistance when playing up).

Teams are organized using a tryout (March 11, 2018) and draft process.  Players may return to the same team within a division if they meet the age requirement.  ALL players (including returning players) must tryout and MUST be preregistered prior to March 10, 2018.  Notification of scheduled tryout time will be sent by email and posted on the web approximately one week in advance of tryouts.

Drafted players (including returning players) will be sent an acceptance by Monday, March 19th and will have until Thursday, March 22, 2018 to complete payment and program registration once they are notified. After March 22, a $20 late fee will be added to the player fee.
Players not drafted will be notified and will have the opportunity to register for the WAA Recreational Baseball league, at the early bird price of $140 through March 31, 2018.

Although the league is competitive, a continued emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of the game as players are instructed on the basics of hitting, throwing, catching and base running within a framework of teamwork and sportsmanship. There will be a maximum of 8 teams per division, and each team will have a roster of 12.

NEW in 2018:
All Competitive Teams will have scheduled indoor team training at the WAA Training Center and the WAA Sports Center. Training times to occur in April and May.  In addition, all players will receive a MLB licensed Majestic Evolution Cool Base Team jersey, WAA hat and socks.  Coaches will receive MLB licensed Team hat.

Practices will begin in April and the season will run thru early-July. Standings are kept and a division champion is determined.  Each division has a mid-season All-Star game and a championship tournament at the conclusion of the regular game season, Players pitch the entire game and regulation baseballs are used.

Players must provide their own glove, cleats (plastic only), white pants and bat (if desired). WAA will provide balls, batting helmets (if requested), catcher gear, and bases for each team.  Shirt, hat and socks are included with the registration fee. Game time is typically 5:45 PM on weeknights in May and 6 PM on weeknights in June and July. Saturday and Sunday game times will vary. Each team may also play Saturday night games. For further details in reference to the rules, please go to the appropriate level webpage (Minors, Majors, Pony).
