Wheatland Athletic Association has a variety of paid opportunities  for middle school, high school, college students and adults. These positions include, but are not limited to: basketball referees, basketball hall monitors, recreational soccer referees for both outdoor and indoor games, linesmen for outdoor soccer, baseball umpires and temporary workers for various administrative duties, storage room and field maintenance. Referee Requirements

1. MANDATORY TRAINING  (non-certified MUST attend ONE clinic).  The clinic runs 2 hours from 7:00p to 9:00pm.   Non-USSF certified referees and asst. referees (linesmen) MUST attend ONE of the offered training clinics in order to qualify for work with WAA, even if WAA training has been attended in the past.  USSF certified referees for the current year do not need to attend this training clinic.

2. MANDATORY  MEETING: All referees and assistant referees MUST also attend a MANDATORY administrative meeting in which schedules, referee shirts, equipment, work permit documents, will be handed out.  A parent should accompany a minor to this meeting.

Special Rules for 13 year old soccer referee and linesmen:

House Bill 5996 makes a change to the Child Labor Law that allows a not-for-profit youth club, park district, municipal park or recreation department to hire 13 year olds to officiate youth athletic events providing the following criteria are met:
  • A parent or guardian of the officiating minor must be present while the minor is officiating.
  • The employer must obtain an employment certificate for the minor from the local high school or school district.
  • The minor is limited to 3 hours of work per day on school days and 4 hours of work on non-school days.
  • The minor may not officiate more than 10 hours per week and may not work past 9:00pm.
  • The officiating minor must be at least 3 years older than the youths participating in the sporting event or someone at least 16 years of age must be officiating the same event.

UMPIRE

Recreational Baseball & Softball Umpire

WAA needs umpires for our Recreational Baseball and Softball Leagues 

Games begin May 30th and continue through mid-July
Games are played in the Naperville/Aurora area 
Officials needed for 2nd grade through 8th grade leagues
Umpires select their games using the Arbiter Sports website
OFFICIAL FINDERS is the Umpire Service Provider for WAA

Applicants must be at least 14 years old or older by June 1st. 
MANDATORY ORIENTATION AND TRAINING SESSION:   May 13th, 4pm-8pm
Work Permit required for all Umpires under the age of 16 on June 1st.

Umpire must provide own gear.

HALL MONITOR / BASKETBALL REFEREE

Job Description:

  • Be watchful and assert yourself to help maintain order and safety in school hallways and restrooms  while basketball games are occurring.
  • Games are held on Saturday's with a few opportunities on Sunday. 
  • Games run from early November through March 
  • Compensation: $10.00 per hour.
  • Minimum age required for Hall Monitoring is 16 years old.
  • Hall Monitors select their times using the Arbiter Sports website
  • OFFICIAL FINDERS is the Hall Monitor Provider for WAA

Winter Basketball Referee

MANDATORY MEETING/CLINIC - Thursday, Oct 12th 6:30pm at the WAA Sports Center

 Job Description :

  • Must be 16 yrs or older. 
  • Certification a plus.
  • Games run from early November through March 
  • Games are one hour long and start as early as 8:00 AM on Saturdays.   
  • Pay scale runs from $17  – $22/game depending on grade level and referee certification.
  • Referees select their games using the Arbiter Sports website
  • OFFICIAL FINDERS is the Basketball Referee Provider for WAA 

Referee will be working with children in grades K – 12. Referees are expected to officiate the game and instruct players on the rules of the game as necessary. Each referee is responsible for maintaining uniform, picking up and/or dropping off equipment at the WAA office and reporting any problems with games/coaches to the referee coordinator.

STUDENT WORKER / MISCELLANEOUS

Student Worker/Various

    Application

Minimum age requirement for working is 16 years old. 

This application should be used for temporary workers. It includes various administrative duties, inventory, storage room and field maintenance.

Application does not guarantee a work opportunity. Worker would be contacted as the need arises and miscellaneous work becomes available. Work is very seasonal and on an as needed basis. It is not permanent or continuous throughout the year.

Volunteer Opportunities

Wheatland Athletic Association depends on volunteer parents for many of the coaching and assistant coaching positions in the program.  We appreciate all those who have helped out in the past and hope they will continue to give of their time for the future. Discounts for head coaches are given for most sports in the program.

If you have an interest in being a volunteer coach, please fill out the designated area on the sport registration form.  You will be contacted with instructions as to when pick up of the roster, information and equipment as needed for each sport.  In addition, if there is a coach meeting or clinic scheduled, you will be emailed with the details.
