NEW 2018 Bat Standards

WAA Baseball Participants,

In an effort to maintain open communication with all of our participants, WAA and its baseball directors would like to make sure all of you are aware of a major change affecting multiple national baseball programs, including Little League and Pony baseball.

The governing body of baseball in the US – USA Baseball – has instituted a new standard for baseball bats that will go into effect on January 1, 2018.  The reason for the change is for the “integrity” of the game so that bats used feel and act more like wood.  The changes are NOT due to any safety concern or issue.

There is a lot of debate and discussion in the baseball community and most tournaments and leagues (not governed by Little League, Pony Baseball, etc.) will allow bats that were allowed this year, as well as new bats.

WAA uses Pony Baseball rules as a guide but is not governed by Pony Baseball.  We anticipate that our bat rules will not change significantly for 2018

Thank you for your support of WAA!

WAA Bat Night

WAA Bat Night

Due to USA Baseball changing the bat standards, effective January 2018, Dicks Sporting Goods will be bringing out bats to DEMO for our WAA families.  This is a FREE event but with an attempt to keep numbers manageable, we would like everyone to register for this event.  WAA Bat Night will be held on Wednesday, October 25th, 2017 from 6:00-9:00pm at the WAA Training Center.

More on the USA Baseball Bat standards below:

In conjunction with USA Baseball and its other participating national member organizations, PONY Baseball has adopted the new USA Baseball bat standard (USABat). Effective January 1, 2018, with the exception of -3 (BBCOR certified), all other minus factor bats (-5, -7, -9, etc.), must be USABat certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat in order to be used for league and tournament play.

WAA uses Pony Baseball rules as a guide but is not governed by Pony Baseball.  We anticipate that our bat rules will not change significantly for 2018

The new USABat certified bats bearing the USABat licensing mark are expected to be offered in retail stores in September.
